Tobias Ide is Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies (Transnational Actors) at TU Darmstadt and Head of the Research Department Transnational Politics at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF). His research focuses on the impact of transnational phenomena (such as climate change, pandemics, and resource trade) on the dynamics of peace and conflict. Tobias Ide also studies the violence and governance strategies of rebel groups. To do so, he utilises systematic comparative methods and conducted fieldwork in Ghana, Colombia, Nepal, Palestine, and the Philippines.
His work has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Peace Research, International Security, and Nature Climate Change. He also regularly advises political decision-makers, including at the UN, NATO, the World Bank, and various ministries in Germany and abroad.
Tobias Ide studied at the University of Leipzig, earned his PhD at the University of Hamburg, and completed his Habilitation at TU Braunschweig. Before joining TU Darmstadt, he worked at the Georg Eckert Institute, the University of Melbourne, Hiroshima University, and Murdoch University Perth. Guest stays took him to Dunedin, Jerusalem, Mannheim and Washington DC.
