Political science has a long tradition at the Technical University of Darmstadt. In 1951, one of the first professorships for political science in Germany was established here. Today, the institute is one of the larger institutions in the field with eight research groups and over 30 scientists. The close cooperation with numerous European and international partner universities allows our students to gain intercultural experience and complete an internationally oriented course of study.
The Institute of Political Science is part of the Department of History and Social Sciences at the TU Darmstadt. On the Institute's website you can find information about the subject areas, research and the range of courses offered.
The institute offers students an attractive range of courses and an intensive exchange with their teachers. In our seminars and lectures we provide the basic fundamentals of political science, research-based specializations in various areas as well as practice-relevant specialist knowledge and analytical skills. This enables students to gain insights into current research issues and future challenges of modern governance.
Our courses are based on internationally visible research focusing on multi-level governance. From an analytical and normative perspective, we examine new forms of governance in domestic, European and international contexts and ask how effective and democratic politics can succeed in such complex structures.
