Dr Izadora Silva Pimenta, associate postdoctoral researcher (Career Bridging Grant) at Professor Nathalie Behnke’s group, will chair a panel entitled “The Meanings of Intersectionality in EU Public Policy” at the annual conference of the Italian Political Science Association (SISP), taking place in Naples from 4th to 6th September 2025.
The panel welcomes contributions that investigate the diverse interpretations and applications of intersectionality within the context of public policy across the European Union. Submissions are expected to critically address topics such as:
- How intersectionality is framed and understood in different policy domains.
- The institutional and structural challenges in applying EU recommendations on intersectionality.
- How intersectionality is translated into practice in public institutions, higher education, and civil society.
- The tensions between intersectionality as a transformative concept and its instrumentalisation in policy-making.
- Case studies on the successes and failures of intersectional policies in different European contexts.
Scholars from a range of disciplines are encouraged to contribute, including those working in policy analysis, discourse studies, sociology, political science, law, and related fields. Submissions may focus on national, regional, or EU-level dynamics, as well as comparative analyses.
The call for papers is open until 25th May 2025.
