For many years, India was a player in the shadow of the People's Republic of China. Politicians and economists in Germany and other European countries paid little attention to India. This has changed: since 2014, the Indian economy has grown rapidly, climbing from 11th place in the list of the world's largest economies to 4th place this year. This increase in economic importance goes hand in hand with growing foreign policy significance. New Delhi now represents its interests very confidently and could overtake the People's Republic of China as the most important power in Asia in the coming decades.
