My name is Najibullah Zaki. Currently, I work on a research project with the international relations department of the political science institute of TU Darmstadt. My work experience is in the fields of economics, development studies, public policy, public administration, and governance. My MA is in economic governance and development from the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (2016), and my BA is in economics from the Economics faculty of Kabul University (2010).
My research project is focused on the role of renewable energy in advancing Afghanistan's sustainable development. Particularly, I am investigating the country's energy transition and the associated opportunities and challenges. Despite obtaining some of its energy requirements from domestic sources (largely fossil fuels) and receiving others such as oil, natural gas, and electricity from neighboring countries such as Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Russia, Afghanistan is confronting an energy crisis. The insufficiency of energy persists, however, in order to meet the demands of the population and attain sustainable development objectives, Afghanistan necessitates sustainable or renewable energy, which is the major emphasis of my project.
