At the chair for methodology in political science and philosophy of science, our teaching addresses in particular fundamental epistemological and methodological contents according to the possibilities, limits and validity of social science knowledge. Building on this, students are taught basic knowledge about the application of qualitative and quantitative methods. Our research projects link methodological questions with comparative analysis of the functioning of political systems and questions of local policy research. In addition, the chair is responsible for the coordination of the political science courses of the institute.

In addition to knowledge of methods, students are also taught a critical awareness of methods in the courses. The aim is to enable students to understand methodically advanced reading. Furthermore, students are fostered to develop their own research designs and to implement them independently and methodically.
